Slow highway. Ride from a guy who told us all about Manchester. Complained about the New York transplants but admitted that he was one himself.rating: 3/5, wait: 45 min, ride: 19 km ↗

Felt a little odd hitchhiking in the middle of the city but we got a ride all the way to the bus station in Troy pretty quick. All the folks we met in upstate New York were really nice.rating: 3/5, wait: 15 min, ride: 16 km ↗

There's limited shoulder on the interstate on-ramps going down most of 95 in Connecticut, but all the on-ramps in Norwalk are screwy. Was stopped by a state trooper a ways back for "Improper use of the highway" for being on an on-ramp. (Can't actually find anything about this specific term or like terms via Google). Although I didn't receive a ticket, I was ordered to move to the street leading up to the on-ramp.
You can ride on the train to New York City from as far back as New Haven for nine dollars.

BP garage. Cars can pull in just up the road, also near traffic lights. Good location for hitching north towards York.―Anonymous, June 2014

Used this spot when I was leaving York to go to Newcastle via A1(M). There was construction going on just before this spot, so cars weren't going so fast. They can pull into the side road, as it (probably) isn't frequently used.I waited 5 minutes for a ride to Scotch Corner (A1/A66 junction) on a Friday around noon.

Quite some bus stops and such closer to York but people don't seem to go towards the A64 much and there's nowhere to pull over near the A64―Atopia, October 2012
